ALISON SMITH
Alison Smith’s university career’s adviser said procurement would be the perfect career for her and 38 years later she still agrees.
After a more traditional career in direct and indirect procurement she’s now a procurement coach, trainer, and speaker.
In addition to her technical category management knowledge, she adds her soft skills and creative thinking expertise to her work.
It’s during the merger between Halifax building Society and Bank of Scotland over 20 years ago that Alison first started using metaphor in her work to improve performance of the merging procurement team.
The effectiveness of metaphor to facilitate change led to Alison writing Can’t see the wood for the trees – landscaping your life to get back on track with many of the examples shared involving her work with procurement or business teams.
Alison is especially passionate about bringing our humanity into business not leaving it at the door and is looking forward to discussing ethical leadership and decision making in Finance and Procurement.
