SSF UK Procure to Pay Network Explores the Evolving Role of Accounts Payable

Today we brought our Procure to Pay network together in Speke, hosting an engaging, insight-packed event at member organisation Amey Group Shared Services.

The day kicked off with a welcome and SSF UK update, followed by an overview from Joe Sellwood, Head of Source to Pay at Amey, sharing the organisation’s Accounts Payable journey over the past six years and the impact of its 2020 relocation.

From there, the conversation quickly moved onto one of the biggest challenges facing teams today - is Accounts Payable focused on value, or becoming the catch-all for everything Procure to Pay?

Members explored how AP functions are evolving across different operating models, where ownership becomes blurred, and how this is driving unnecessary pressure, rework and inefficiency. Open discussion and breakout sessions created space to challenge thinking, share experiences and compare what’s working across our different member organisations.

The afternoon shifted focus towards driving efficiency and creating capacity. With insight from Sam Dhingra, VP Sales at Xelix, the discussion looked at how centralising vendor queries, supported by AI, can improve visibility, consistency and response times — while freeing up teams to focus on higher-value activity.

Attention then turned to data that matters. Rather than tracking volume, members explored how dashboards can be used to highlight risk, manage workload proactively and support better, faster decision-making.

The day closed with a clear message - it’s not about doing more; it’s about focusing on the work that truly adds value.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to join us today, the openness and engagement in the room made it what it was. A special thank you to our Network Leaders, Joe Sellwood and Chloe Jones, for leading such a strong discussion, and to Xelix for sponsoring and bringing fresh perspective into the conversation. And finally, a big thank you to Amey for hosting us and for the fantastic lunch, a great setting and great hospitality that really helped make the day.

A brilliant day from start to finish and we are already looking forward to September where we will have 2 events taking place, the first on September 11th online with special guest Emma Jones, Small Business Commissioner and new for 2026 our combined P2P and O2C network event taking place onon September 22nd at member organisation Culina Group in Warrington. : P2P and
