Today we held an online interactive session with Speaker and International best selling Author Alison Edgar. After introductions from Alison she asked members to log into Menti and asked the question "How do you feel about life after Covid19?". This brought up answers from exhausted, really excited, concerned, positive and nervous. Alison wanted to share why people may be feeling anxious, Metathesiophobia, the fear of change. We have all be forced to change without a consultation, how can you help to control the fear of change. Alison focused on mindset, the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
A fixed mindset:
Im either good at it or I'm not
Failure is the limit of my abilities
I dont like to be challenged
I stick to what I know
Feedback and criticism are personal.
A Growth mindset:
I can learn to do anything I want
Failure is an opportunity to grow
Challenges help me grow
I like to try new things
I take feedback on board as constructive which helps me grow
Alison then went on help us to understand our behaviours using the DISC tool. We all have a different view of the world, how do we manage and integrate our Teams. She talked about individuals being a blend of Introverts and Extroverts and how some of us are task focused and others relationship focused.
Alison gave our members a profile to complete ahead of the event which asked questions on how you feel in certain situations pre pandemic and post pandemic. The answers were then collated into a report which told you which colour you are. Red, Yellow, Green or Blue, although we are all a blend of all.
Red - not great listeners (their way or the high way), like to give orders, impatient and stubborn, take initiative, communicates fast and efficient, high achiever
Yellow - bad listeners (love to talk) lose track egotistic, humoristic and a verbal communicator, risk takers and people focused.
Green - indecisive, dependant on others, silent, loyal, good at communication
Blue - Critical, stress sensitive, good negotiator, problem solver
How can we then make the transition for ourselves, our teams and our colleagues as we come out of lockdown. Post Covid we need to adapt and make changes to build better relationships to help those that are struggling.Treat others how they want to be treated not how we would like to be treated. Alison gave examples using the DISC tool.
Alison wrapped up the session sharing tips on how to manage and change our mindset post Covid19 and introduce scaling systems within your organisations.
