Today we held the second online HR network event. Network Chairs Jenny Roberts and Lisa Dennis had a packed agenda and began the session with welcomes and introductions round the group.
Jenny kicked off the session with Sli.do. This was a great session to find out how everyone was feeling. The majority of the group were still working from home, with some smaller teams working back in the office. Simon Haben from Royal Mail said he had 20 people back in the office, and that was purely because they wanted to and were happy to with all guidelines in place but the rest were fine working from home so will continue to do so for the time being. The majority of members felt that they were moving from away from a "keeping the lights on" approach and planning for a return back to work, although some organisations said they will only have employees working a few days in the office and the rest of time they will continue to work remotely.
The group shared some of the challenges that they are currently facing in their planning to return to the office environment, they included using public transport, safety, wellbeing, managing guidelines.
Sarah Mahoney, Head of Employee Relations and HR Business Partner Support Services at Community Integrated Care shared details on how their organisation was preparing from a second wave of the pandemic. Within each of the Teams they complied a "stop/start/continue" exercise, each Head of the team was asked a series of questions in relation to their area:
What have we stopped doing that we can continue to stop for the foreseeable future?
What have we stopped doing that we can continue to pause for a further 3 months?
What have we stopped doing that we need to restart now as its creating some type of risk?
What have we started doing that we want to continue doing going forwards?
They wanted to ensure they are prepared and focused on key areas, with a group of key specialists. They also did a looking back exercise from the start of the pandemic and lockdown and what what worked well, what didnt and what they could do differently.
The session that moved on to focus on Chatbots. There was a member contribution from The people Team at Bupa. Andrew Webb gave everyone a brief insight into what their self service landscape looks like and shared a case study on the self service process they are going through within their organisation.
The last part of the session was a scope discussion. They looked at how different organisations structured their HR function and where the grey areas exist in terms of roles and responsibilities
