Sunday 12 July 2026 marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Finance Shared Services Centre (FSSC), Kier's centralised hub for finance and commercial transactional processing.
Established in Manchester, FSSC brought together Kier's 13 legacy back-office finance operations into a single function, supporting the company's Oracle transformation and standardising processes and ways of working across the business. The centre further expanded its remit through the integration of the Causeway Shared Service Centre in 2018 and the addition of Construction and Places Commercial Support in 2025.
Today, the hybrid team operates across the UK and is responsible for billing, cash collection, supply chain payments, expenses, P-Card activities, master data maintenance, Oracle financial operations and controls, and business insights reporting.
Over the past decade, FSSC has successfully delivered major systems, process, and organisational change programmes, including a seamless transition to hybrid working during the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout this growth, the team has remained focused on delivering operational excellence and supporting colleagues and sites through a Site First approach to change.
An early adopter of digital innovation, FSSC now processes 70% of transactions through a suite of automation tools. More than 15 million transactions have been processed with an accuracy rate exceeding 98.7%, demonstrating its commitment to service quality and efficiency.
Since 2018, FSSC's work to improve supply chain payment management has directly contributed to Kier's tendering performance, helping to deliver the strongest results in the company's history during the period from July to December 2025.
The team has also championed diversity and inclusion, with a strong focus on creating opportunities for women and underrepresented groups. In addition, its charity, wellbeing, and remembrance initiatives have raised more than £120,000 over the past decade, reflecting its commitment to supporting both colleagues and communities.
FSSC has received 19 internal and external awards and is widely recognised as a benchmark for service, resilience and process excellence within the construction and infrastructure SSC sector. Most recently, it was recognised with the Finance Transformation of the Decade award at the 2026 GenCFO Awards.
Dan Foley, FSSC Director, shares:
"We could never have imagined where the last 10 years would take us, and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. In particular, I want to recognise the many colleagues who have contributed to our success, including the 20 team members who have been with us from the very beginning.
"Our focus has always been on delivering value and relevance at the right cost to serve, while supporting our sites and colleagues across Kier. Through continuous improvement, digital innovation, and a growing understanding of our customers, we have built a reputation as a leading shared services organisation and are proud to be recognised as an industry benchmark.
"Our mantra has always been 'We Keep Kier Working'. As Kier continues to grow, we will continue to evolve, innovate and provide the support our business needs for the future."
