This year's Appreciation Day saw participation soar, with team engagement rising by 16% compared to the previous year and surpassed expectations by sharing more than 400 heartfelt messages. Such expressions of gratitude do more than brighten someone’s day; they help strengthen wellbeing, foster teamwork, and reinforce the values that make Kier a genuinely special place to work.
Appreciation Day continues to be a meaningful tradition for HR Shared Services, serving as a reminder that recognition is essential and that the team thrives when people feel seen, valued, and supported.
Each message is submitted through a short, easy to complete form which was sent out to all of the HR Shared Services about two weeks before Appreciation Day. The form was completely anonymous and could be filled out multiple times.
We created a template in Word and generated a mail merge from the responses in Excel, so that the names and messages were ready
for printing with minimal need for formatting.
The day before our Collaboration Day, we then decorated the entrance to HR Shared Services. We are looking into how we can continue this activity in a more digital way next year.
