INSIGHTS FOR FUTURE READY LEADERSHIP!

A few weeks ago when Peter Richardson and Leyla Tindall presented on ‘Future-Ready Leadership’ at the September Leaders event and gave us a sneak peek into some insights from the unreleased Robert Half 2023 Salary Guide.

The report launched today and provides leaders with a great overview of the hiring landscape, what employees are looking for from their employer, and how to retain and attract top talent.

A few highlights below to give you food for thought:

Hiring Trends

  • Supporting employees through the rising cost-of-living crisis includes focusing on employee wellbeing, mental health support and financial training
  • Earnings under pressure due to inflation which is eroding salary increases
  • 78% fear that the rising cost of living will push employees to seek higher salaries
  • Uncertainty about attracting and retaining talent with a third of business leaders having to make more counteroffers
  • Key skills are hard to find and are holding back UK businesses

Flexible Working

  • Remote working is not the ‘holy grail’ it was touted to be. Hybrid working has overtaken fully remote options as businesses look to maintain culture and retain staff
  • Nearly 70% say hybrid working is a compromise that works for employees and their employers
  • 2 days in the office and 3 days from home is the most common option (either by choice or by workplace policy)

Perks & Benefits

  • To make office-life more appealing, more than half plan to offer commuting discounts or season ticket loans to aid with the cost of commuting
  • A third of companies are planning to add stress reduction programmes designed to curb burnout-related and resignations
  • A third of businesses are considering reducing working hours with retention of salary
  • Perks could be cut to aid due to the cost of living

Corporate culture (incl ESG, DEI and Ethics)

  • 22% of younger workers would put corporate values above salary
  • Candidates wish to get an idea of the corporate culture before they commit - 73% of hirers have been asked about at least one element of corporate culture at interview
  • Many businesses are focusing on increasing inclusion programmes - nearly a quarter amending hiring processes and / or creating Employee Network Groups to aid with culture
