As we continue with our Celebrating years spotlight features, we welcome this weeks "Face behind the Speaker" Alex Staniforth.
WHERE WERE YOU YEARS AGO?
I might be unpopular now... I was about to start my GCSE's at high school! It was also the same time I discovered a passion for outdoor challenges, which inspired my ambition to climb Mount Everest, which was a life-changing step on my journey. The rest, as they say, is recent history. I'm very lucky now to have the opportunity to share what I've learnt on that journey through adversity with organisations like the Shared Services Forum UK, inspiring their teams to thrive through adversity, embrace failure and take the steps to reach their own Everest.
WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO BE IN THE NEXT YEARS?
Still learning, challenging my limits and sharing the stories with more audiences, both in the UK and further afield. Sir Ralph Fiennes is still going strong! My second book came out last year and I've recently set up a charity called Mind Over Mountains to improve mental well-being by building resilience through nature and the outdoors, so really excited to see that develop and create outdoor experiences for more people who need them. There's more info at www.mindovermountains.org.uk.
WHAT ONE PEARL OF WISDOM WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OUR MEMBERS TO HELP THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS?
Only one?! So much in life is outside of our circle of control - focus on the small steps we can take and how we respond to the troughs. You might find that success starts to look like something different along the way!
